Abstract

The wealth of European society is steadily growing in the sense of rapid technological development. This has led to more and more waste being made. In the European Union, some 3 billion tons of waste are thrown away every year. The EU must, therefore, give this issue due consideration. This contribution was established within the international Wasters project Leonardo da Vinci, which is organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The aim is to present the current situation of the EU and Slovak Republic waste legislation and waste management systems. The waste regeneration in the Slovak Republic was also explored with examples of best practice in waste regeneration.
